How to force yourself to do what you have to do when you lack motivation! ( 5 Quick Tips)

Motivation comes and goes, I don’t think I can count on it at all. Sometimes, I have so high motivation, I am ready for my day and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve my goals but sometimes, motivation is not there for me and I have no willpower left!

It has become problematic. In life, you have things to do, something you have to get it done no matter what. But when you have zero motivation, it’s hard to get yourself to do those things.I know it’s all about our own heads producing some stupid logic or reason to stop us from doing hard work. Something like, you find  it’s too hard to get it done, or you don’t think you have enough time and so on…..

However, I’ve been through this shit before. And I’m not gonna let it ruin my life! And you shouldn’t too…

Here, my 5 quick tips of How to force yourself to do what you have to do when you lack motivation!

1.Remind yourself the reasons why you have to do it

Most of the time you lack motivation because of your lack of clarity. When you have the clear vision of your goal and you see yourself achieve that goal, you will have a strong motivation to do whatever it takes to get what you want. Remind yourself of the reasons why you have to do what you have to do  will help you to stay motivated or at least you will have the willpower to get those things done!

2. Ask yourself what is the consequence of not doing it?

This is similar to the first one, it’s reminding you why you have to do what needs to be done. But the difference is it’s gonna push you more than drive you… For example, you have to read books in order to get a good grade but if you don’t read books you will not get a good grade or worse, you might fail at that subject! Sometimes, we all need some pressure to run our lives! Get out of your comfort zone!

3.Break that piece of work to be the smallest action that you can take one step right away

You can’t build the house in one day as well as you can’t achieve the big goal in one step. But every step you take will get you closer to it! When you have no motivation for getting shit done, make it small so you can take action right away. For example, if you have to write a long essay and you don’t know what to do it, just grab your pen and paper and write anything you can, brainstorming it! When you take the first step then the rest will be easier.

4.Get yourself refresh

Get yourself out of the same environment, go for a short walk, get some fresh air or drink some water! Your brain needs to function well in order to focus on something, especially, when that thing is hard, it’s something  you have never experienced before. You will find it’s really helpful to just get yourself refreshed before you have to tackle the hard work. When you feel fresh, you have high energy and that’s when you feel like rockstar!

5.Use 5 seconds Rule

I heard this from Mel Robbins a couple of years ago, it was a simple technique that saved my ass every time when I had the feeling of not doing it . Here is what she says about how to use the 5 seconds rule When you feel yourself hesitate before doing something that you know you should do, count 5-4-3-2-1-GO and move towards action.”

When you use this rule, you will shut the negative thoughts from your brain that prevent you from doing things you should do in 5 seconds. This is a really powerful technique that will kill your laziness!

Whenever you lack motivation just do one of these tips, you don’t have to do all of them. Choose the one that works for you.

I basically like to use all of them in general depending on how hard of a thing I have to do. For example, getting out of bed, I use the 5 seconds rule because I need to get out of bed right away, otherwise I might have a chance to go back to sleep again and I don’t want to let myself do that. When it comes to reading, I like to break it down to the smallest action I can do right away, such as, read the first 2 pages and then I can go do something else I want to, or finish one chapter every day, so in 10 days I will finish the whole book! And by the time I finish my 1 chapter, I already feel good about myself so I might just keep going until I finish my book in one day!

Sometimes, you have to find the way to force yourself to do what you have to do, and don’t forget that you are your own boss!
