Successful people work hard but at the same time they also work smart, because these people know how to prioritize the tasks and execute them.
I wrote about the 80/20 Rule before in another post, but I’m gonna talk about it again because I really fascinate with this idea; Work less and get more! Anyway, the concept of the 80/20 rule or Pareto principle is about “ 80% of your outcomes come from 20% of your inputs” —- which means, you should focus on 20% of the most important thing in that specific area that you are working on in order to get at least 80% result of your goal. Well, you don’t want to work hard on something that doesn’t get you anywhere, right? You wanna make sure every step that you take will get you closer to where you want to be! Here are the steps of how to work smarter not harder with the 80/20 Rule
1.Looking for the 20% of the thing that need to be done for the 80% result of your goal
In this step, you have to ask yourself — what is the 20% of your actions that leads to the 80% result of your goal. This will help you to see what matters and what doesn’t matter, so you can spend your time and energy on the right thing. If you are a student; go ask your teacher — what area do you have to study in order to get 80% of your grade? Then you can focus on that area more… You will be surprised, how much time and energy you have when you use this rule!
2.Make your plan that focus on that 20% thing you have to get done
After you know what to do and what not to, it’s time to make a plan! Create a to-do list based on your goal. If it’s a long term goal, you can make a yearly goal, monthly goal, weekly goal and finally, a daily goal. Try not to get it too tight, balance yourself so you won’t be too stressed. Remember,you want to work smart not to work hard, so you have to be careful of yourself too. However, just make sure that the plan you made will work. That would be enough.
3.Take action towards your plan
Now, you have the plan! Next step is to take action! I know that taking action could be the hard step to do, but once you take the step the rest will get easier. Sometimes, you have to push yourself to do things you have to do, it’s always hard at the beginning but when you do it for a while you will get used to it.
Conclusion : It’s all about figuring out what is the most important thing to do to get the result you want. It’s the way to manage your time and energy to spend on the right thing and reduce the time wasters activities. This rule can apply in any area in life ( It’s life changing).
